This intensive two-week program consists of three parts, namely:

Social entrepreneurship training in Madrid

  1. Program presentation:
The event will commence with a meeting of all participants with the coordinator of the program. You will get to meet each other and learn about their experience, motivations and competences. You will be briefed about the program and its objectives and a short introduction about the concept of social entrepreneurship and social innovation. Later, the partner organizations will present the challenges you will be working on in the upcoming days and will also brief you about their organizations, its mission and activities. These are real challenges that these social organizations face which can be used by you to come up with ideas to tackle them by designing a project during the program. Most of the case studies will be about real needs in the organizations in Valencia where you will be doing their community services later.
  2. User and opportunity:
The first step in designing a project is to identify the user and differentiate in this case the beneficiary population.  We will describe it and empathizes with him/her to later build a much more effective solution. We will also identify and redefine the social objective of the program and the impact expected.  We will use different tools from design thinking and others like the Impact gaps canvas which help us identify barriers, previously applied solutions, synergies and impact opportunities.  In the afternoon, we will do a group visit to a social innovation project in Madrid and we will meet some of its promoters and talk with them.
  3. Value proposition:
What value do we offer our beneficiaries? What value do we offer our clients/organizations? In this module, we will look at these questions which will help us design the product/service on which our project will be based. We will possibly identify different value propositions for different clients/beneficiaries which will be significantly different in value and will define the components of our project. In the afternoon, we will receive the visit of a social entrepreneur/innovator to hear about their project, listen to an inspirational talk and have the opportunity of ask questions and discuss about the topic of the talk.
  4. Product/service design:
Using design thinking techniques and human center design methodologies and based on the outcomes of the previous sessions we will define the product and service and specify every detail. There might possibly be more than one/product or service and it will be important in designing a Minimum Viable Product to that we can prototype to start testing and gather feedback to adapt and evolve in subsequent iterations. In the afternoon, we will do a group visit to a social innovation project in Madrid and we will meet some of its promoters and talk with them.
  5. Social business model:
Any social project needs to be sustainable socially, ecologically and financially. That is why in this session we will build a business model for our project mainly using a Social Business Canvas, a tool that in a lean and easy way will help us identify our clients and beneficiaries and define the different aspects of our project like our cost structure, key alliances, the channel for delivery or the income resources. We will build on top of the outcomes of day 1 and 3 in which we identified the value proposition of our project and our beneficiary. We will also think about how to integrate this project in the partner organization. In the afternoon, we will receive the visit of a social entrepreneur/innovator to hear about their project, listen to an inspirational talk and have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss about the topic of the talk.
  6. Storytelling and pitch preparation:
Learning how to communicate your project can mean the difference between gaining support and allies or not. In this module, we will work on the narrative of your project and we will explore the key concepts and tips to improving your public speaking skills and we will design a short pitch for your project to present it in front of any audience and to present it to the organization partner that presented that challenge. In the afternoon, we will have a group visit to a social innovation project in Madrid and we will meet some of its promoters and talk with them.

Community Service in Valencia
In Valencia, the same groups that worked together in Madrid will join the NGOs whose challenges you have been working on. You will be having  creative sessions for one week, where you will share your work with the local teams in common presentations or working in small groups with the staff or the departments of the organizations.  You will work 6 hours per day; living with a host family, learning about the local culture and sharing their own cultures and doing cultural activities in the afternoons.

Cultural trip to Barcelona
This is the end of the program, we will focus on the cultural aspects of the city, discovering modernism, Gaudi and all the contemporary offering in Barcelona. We will also enjoy all the incredible social life in city.
