The word “Efterskole” is translated to boarding school but there is actually no English word that fully covers it! The concept behind the “Efterskole” is a very big part of the Danish cultural heritage. During their time at a “Efterskole” participants are educated towards becoming strong and powerful individuals. The focus lies on the entire human being and not only the academic performance of the participants. It is usually said that 1 year on an efterskole counts as 7 normal years because the students go through such a great personal development. If you want to learn more about the historical and cultural origins of the “Efterskole” please find more information here: https://www.efterskolerne.dk/en/English/aboutthedanishefterskole

The general outline of the program is as follows:

• Living and studying alongside the Danish students at the school

• Doing exciting extracurricular activities such as sports, excursions etc.

In this program the participant will become part of the international class and in that way experience daily life and classes at a Danish Efterskole. During their stay at the school, the participants will be part of the vibrant social life at the school and interact with Danish and international students. There will be activities organized for the participants during vacant weekends and evenings. As the Efterskole concept is about educating young people towards becoming good and bright individuals it is expected of them to help with cleaning, tidying their room and common spaces and sometimes wash the dishes or help in the kitchen.

Students should bring their own laptop to use in classes. At the end of the program each participant will be given a certificate of participation with details of the program curriculum – both from Ranum Efterskole College and AFS Denmark.

It will be possible to send participants in groups (small groups, large groups and even full classes accompanied by their teacher) or individually. Please note that if you send 5 participants or more, it will be possible to organise separate intensive English or Danish language classes (4 hours per week), organise special projects according to the wishes of the students and organise additional excursions.
