The word “Efterskole” is translated to boarding school but there is actually no English word that fully covers it! The concept behind the “Efterskole” is a very big part of the Danish cultural heritage. During their time at a “Efterskole” participants are educated towards becoming strong and powerful individuals. The focus lies on the entire human being and not only the academic performance of the participants. It is usually said that 1 year on an efterskole counts as 7 normal years because the students go through such great personal development.
AFS and Ranum Efterskole College offer a 4-week Summer school programm. The summer program embraces the school´s educational philosophy, which emphasises the development of the students´s interests and the quality of essential courses. This approach strengthens the participant’s teamwork skills and the ability to think creatively and become more independent. The students also have the opportunity to work and relax together with young people from different cultural backgrounds. The students will become more confident in speaking and using the English language. They will also gain a good understanding of Danish history and culture.
The programme will host up to 500 students from around the world. Thus there will be a fast-paced social environment, which might be experienced as overwhelming for some. The students will put together their own course program depending on which of the available classes they choose. The students will have to choose their classes before their arrival at Ranum. They will be able to choose both essential courses like English, Science etc., but also more active or creative classes like outdoor, design etc. In addition, various extracurricular subjects are offered in the afternoons/evenings. Participant amenities include large and modern shared rooms, delicious meals, WIFI throughout the campus, and access to the gym and cinema during spare time.
